Brown University – new residence halls knitted into the surrounding fabric

Brook Street Residence Hall will provide a new vibrant, inviting residential community on the southern end of Brown’s campus that is knitted into the fabric of its surrounding neighborhood. As envisioned, the 355-bed residence hall will be oriented towards third and fourth-year undergraduates on campus, and integrate spaces for living with places to socialize, study, and gather.

Two publicly accessible green spaces and ground floor common spaces will contribute to a lively and engaging pedestrian experience. The all-electric, high-performance design will include a cross-laminated timber structure and will minimize the environmental impact of both the residence hall and the construction process in order to contribute to the University’s pledge to reduce campus greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2040.
