The New York State Prison Redevelopment Commission brought together a panel of experts – including Partners Deborah Berke and Arthi Krishnamoorthy – across community and economic development, real estate, criminal justice reform and government sectors to examine repurposing shuttered correctional facilities in impacted communities. Over the past year, the Commission met regularly with state agencies, community stakeholders, and economic development organizations, with the goal to develop a set of recommendations for future use. At the end of December, Governor Hochul published the Commissions’ report, and work towards following the recommendations has already begun.
Partners Deborah Berke and Arthi Krishnamoorthy were part of the Commission that worked to reimagine the state’s closed prisons, and look forward to the continuation of the project.
