Georgica Road House
East Hampton, New York, 2006

Inspired by the historic houses, barns, and outbuildings in the area, this 4,300 square foot weekend house reinterprets its local predecessors in unanticipated ways. The spare, almost austere architecture allows for an uncanny mix of both grandeur and intimacy.

The spacious living room, with its multiple seating areas, opens up to the backyard with an expanse of unusually tall windows that flood the room with sunlight. The kitchen and dining room were designed to be open to each other to embrace the owner’s lifestyle, which includes year-round informal entertaining. The kitchen forgoes upper cabinets to maximize the unobstructed views through the generous windows.

The muted hues and gray tones used in the project evoke the tranquility of a foggy morning at the beach while still providing a luxurious and comfortable textural palette throughout the house.
