Reedy Creek Fire Department
Lake Buena Vista, Florida, in progress
DBPA has completed Schematic Design for this new 13,000 square foot emergency services building, which will be built to serve this rapidly growing area outside Orlando, Florida.

Unified within the building's single, pure volume are actually two distinct programmatic areas. One half of the building, where the firefighters will live and sleep during their 24-hour shifts, looks inward on a small but serene interior court. The other half contains a glazed apparatus bay where the trucks stand ready to respond to the alarm bell.

While ordinary in form, the building is extraordinary for its use of color, material, and surface quality, taking its cues from the vivid 'safety' lime-yellow that characterizes the RCFD's fleet of trucks. Steel panels, shaped to provide a subtly bossed profile, will clad the exterior. The panels' porcelain enamel finish, which give the building its trademark color, provide a durable solution to the Florida sun's harsh, color-fading effects.
