This small liberal arts college in rural Vermont commissioned DBPA to develop
an analysis of the existing campus and prepare a master plan for potential
future development. In keeping with a unique policy of involving all members
of the community - faculty, staff, and students - in decisions affecting campus
life, DBA began the planning effort at an initial 'town meeting' in which
all campus members were encouraged to voice their concerns and ideas.
DBPA's analysis of the campus maps the following: building use, orientation,
access, pedestrian and vehicular circulation; it highlights natural and
constructed patterns of spatial definition and classifies existing buildings
into categories based on stylistic and spatial characteristics. DBPA constructed
a scale model of the campus on its dramatically sloping site in order to
better understand and illustrate in three dimensions the impact of new construction.
Finally, the master plan proposes a carefully phased series of construction,
renovation, and landscape projects to meet the college's long-range plans
for upgrading facilities and growth. |
