Crosby Street Loft
New York City, 2004
To preserve the rough 'downtown' feel of this loft for the young bachelor living there, DBPA relied almost entirely on designing large pieces of custom furniture. All the pieces emphasize flexibility and mobility, offering the client the opportunity to transform individual pieces to suit a particular need or even to reconfigure the whole loft at will.

For instance, a sofa of black neoprene and felt, with its movable backrest, may function sometimes as a double-sided sofa and other times as a bed for overnight guests. The client's own bed similarly doubles as a self-contained 'room' which can be moved around the loft and which incorporates storage and pull-down shades.

Materials throughout, such as baltic birch plywood, titanium, and rubber, are high-tech and durable while still promoting the client's refined elegant taste. The mobility of the pieces reflects the young man's own mobility - when he moves, he can take his loft with him.
