Wilmington, Delaware, design concept, 2007
World Cafe Live, a performance and cabaret venue comprising three stages and two restaurants, extends the popular Philadelphia brand to downtown Wilmington, Delaware. Our design considers light and music to be the "materials" of World Cafe Live - the stuff that defines performance and gives this project its shape. One stage does not require acoustic isolation, and instead spreads light and activity all over the downtown streetscape. Another larger venue sits in the vast confines of a former theater, providing the intriguing possibility that the repetitively windowed side facade serve as a rich indicator of all the activity happening within.
