21c Museum Hotel Austin
Austin, Texas, in progress
Following the success of the 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, for clients Steve Wilson and Laura Lee Brown (ACE Unlimited), 21c Museum Hotel Austin is a 270,000 sf luxury hotel building with gallery spaces for the exhibition of work by prominent living artists. Along with a 44-story, 400,000 sf condominium tower by Goody Clancy and developer partners including Poe Companies, REI Real Estate Partnerships and Ironwood Real Estate, the project is a part of a larger transformation of this downtown district into a mixed-use neighborhood.

On top of underground parking, a three-story podium houses the public spaces of the hotel, including galleries, a sky-lit ballroom, and a second-level outdoor sculpted court. The pixilated, shingled facade emphasizes the ever-present Texas sunlight, and the glass walls of the ground floor cafe and restaurant open fully to engage the street. Above, the colored glass facade of the hotel tower creates a distinctive image for 21C on the outside and contributes to the mood of the guest rooms within.
